subject: Irresistible Tours To Bogot [print this page]

Bogot, once notorious for its slimy crime ridden underbelly is cleaning up its act fast and is on the way to becoming one of the most popular travel destinations in South America. The place has really undergone a major transformation with improved security, better infrastructure and cleansing campaigns doing their bit to give the city a badly needed facelift.

Since Bogot is the political and financial center of Colombia, it is the first place that Colombians go to when they leave home looking for opportunities. Ultimately, these people end up eking out a meager existence. It could be because of this that there are many shantytowns in Bogot. That is the bad part. Now, lets take a look at those factors that have made Bogot a star destination in Colombia.

Bogot is a massive place. It is also well populated. Still, the climate is pleasant. There are a number of parks and pleasure spots. There are a number of peaks in the east which make for great scenic pleasure. Another factor that makes Bogot a wonderful place to start your Colombian adventure is its strategic geographical position. It is located almost at the heart of Colombia.

One of the first things you notice on tours to Bogot is the grace of the city. It is wonderfully ethnic with graceful churches, wonderful museums, universities, bars, pubs, restaurants and a pulsating nightlife that attracts visitors from all over the world.

Some of the highlights of tours to Bogot include The Gold Museum, which is located at the center of the city, with its 20,000 or more wonderful objects. You can even take pictures of these so long as you do not use a flash. The Monserrate is another place that you must not miss. La Candelaria is a quaint town and a visit here will literally take you to a place from the fables. La Plaza de Bolivar has a number of government buildings of different eras and times.

Bogot is famed for its museums and art galleries. After the Gold Museum, you can enjoy the Religious Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. From there, if you feel like something more exciting, go watch a bull fight in the Plaza de Toros de Santamaria.

Last but not the least, Bogot is one of the best places in Colombia to sample and enjoy the vigorous night life. You can spend the night drinking and dancing in the numerous clubs here. Candle lit terraces are a sight for sore eyes. A word of warning though: once you start grooving to the music, you might find it almost impossible to tear yourself away from the scene before the wee hours of the night. But, hey, thats what a holiday is all about, right?
