The basics are a working pen, a formatted answer sheet, handout round and a bit of scrap paper to do some workings on. Make sure you have this sorted at the beginning once someone pays give them everything even the handout round unless you intend to give it in an interval.
Mobile phones. Not only are mobile phones annoying, people texting questions to friends and family can also a cause of lot of frustration in a pub quiz. With smart phones people can take picture from a handout round use an app on their phones and it will search for people is matches. The best and easiest way of dealing with mobile phones is to ban them make it clear at the beginning. Gone are the days it was a bit fun to knock a couple of points off you have to ban teams or at the very least deduct a high amount of marks to stop them. This will stop other quiz teams becoming annoyed as most want to have fun but have a chance of winning.
