I wonder just how many people are aware that several supreme court justices have been paid off by conservative groups. Scalia speaks frequently at conservative group events where he is paid handsomely. Clarence Thomas and his wife receive large amounts of kickbacks from conservative organizations. And these are but two examples.
The upshot to this is that the ultimate protectors of our democracyhave been bought off by a small segment of our vast populous. This is a tragedy in the making, especially since they Supreme Court recently issued a ruling giving corporations the same rights as public citizens to monetarily effect the political process. This is a large part of the reason why so many democrats were defeated (although their lack of personal fortitude didn't help them any).
Now republicans have control of the house and are attacking women's health, trying to eliminate unions,and haveincreased the reach of the patriot act (a return to McCarthyism in what was once the greatest democracy the world had ever known). If these attempts to alter our democracy succeed we will have corporate control of our government rather than citizen control of our government.
Why?
Because corporations have more money to buy off our politicians.
This is a deadly serious issue. The supreme court, bought off by the walthy right has handed the reins of our electoral process over to corporate interests who have decimated our economy with outsourcing jobs, taking ever larger salaries and kickbacks for their CEOs and executive staffs, and buying off election after election.
The Media rarely mentions any of this for more than a few fleeting moments. Why? Because they are also corporations with large monetary interests. They benefit just as much by this wealth transfer from citizens to corporations. So their blind eye is not by accident. It is entirely calculated and executed in a vicious, take no prisoners manner. So much for the notion of a "liberal" bias in the media. Hogwash!
I urge my fellow citizens to take this seriously, band together, and force the supreme court to overturn that ruling, refuse to accept any threat to unions or public organizations. Democrats in Wisconsin fled the state because the governor sent the national guard to hunt them down and arrest them for having a difference of opinion and supporting unions. If that does not shock my fellow citizens into action, I'm not sure what will. Perhaps reading 1984 will also help.
Our democracy is in deep danger of dying. We need to take it back. Citizens come first, not corrupt politicians, a sell-out president, nor corporations. Citizens.
Remember What President Lincoln said:
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
I want My country back. And NOT from the "liberals." I want it back from the huge money interests that have Shanghaied it.
