How does Propecia Work?
Male pattern baldness is a genetic disposition. This is why many men believe that there could not be a successful treatment to stop or even reverse male pattern balding. However, the problem is that these genes cause an over production of the male hormone Dihydrotestosterone (or DHT for short).
It is this hormone that causes the hair follicles to shut down which means that no new hair is produced and the hair that you have can fall out. Propecia (or finasteride) blocks this DHT which means that there is no malfunction of hair production and things can carry on as normal.
What kinds of Hair loss does Propecia work for?
Propecia only works for male pattern baldness. It can not be used by women and will not work for other causes of hair loss.
Does Propeica work instantly?
Propecia is not a miracle cure that will work instantly. Normally it takes three months continuous use before results can be seen. In some cases Propecia works to stop hair loss and does not encourage regrowth of hair. This makes it difficult for men to see the results of the drug as they have maintained a status quo. Whilst they have more hair after use then they would have if they didn't use Propecia (because no more hair loss was experienced) they do not have more hair then when they started.
