Wireless computer speakers are gaining popularity. The ability to place them wherever you want means less clutter on your desk, this is especially handy if you have a small work environment. The audio quality, now, is on par with a typical wired system.
Most aftermarket computer audio setups are made of 2 smaller speakers, called satellites, and a larger speaker, called a subwoofer. The subwoofer is there just to handle the bass. The Creative Inspire S2 speaker system comes in both a wired and wireless configuration. We'll be reviewing the wireless version, which uses Bluetooth connectivity.
Hardware
The Creative S2 Wireless system is composed of 2 satellite speakers, each with a 2" driver, along with a compact subwoofer. One of the satellite speakers contains the on/off button and volume controls as well as a 3.5mm audio jack and headphone jack.
The 2 satellite speakers measure approximately 3"x3"x4" (WxDxH). They come in a basic design, white in color, with a black fabric screen protecting the front. The subwoofer measures approximately 9"x7"x8" (WxDxH). The subwoofer is all black in color, again with a lack screen on the front. The sub comes with a bass control knob and a vent exiting the back for increased bass.
Bluetooth
The system comes with a Bluetooth USB stick that plugs into a USB port on your desktop PC or laptop. Most new computer s come with Bluetooth compatibility, but this should be verified prior to purchasing this system. Setting up the connection is very easy, simply follow the onscreen instructions.
This system is also able to pair with a Bluetooth compatible mp3 player, such as an iPod. Simply hold down the volume up button on one of the satellite speakers to make the device discoverable. Once paired, you can control the volume, track, and playlist controls from your mp3 player.
Overall Impressions
This system is very good when played at low to mid volume ranges, which will be more than good enough for most people. At high volumes the sound starts to get distorted, but this is only when maxing out the speaker volume. However, considering the small size of the satellite speakers, the sound quality from this system is very good. The bass delivered from the relatively small sub is also impressive. Overall the sound is very clear, whether you're watching a movie, listening to music, or playing a video game. At this price point, the Creative S2 2.1 wireless speaker system is the best you can get.
