Eliminate Buddy Punching with a Biometric Time Clock

Saving money is one of the most important things a small business owner can do to ensure the profitability and ensure the growth of their company.

If you own a business, you're probably aware that rent and payroll are 2 of the largest expenses in maintaining your organization.. In harsh economic times, many businesses need to reduce their staff in order to maintain profitability. But is this really necessary? Maybe not!

What if you could cut down the expenses associated with payroll without eliminating staff? Well if you have employees who punch a time card, you may not fully understand the unnecessary costs your business occurs when employees cheat your payroll system. This is a phenomenon known as buddy punching.

What is the definition of buddy punching?

Buddy punching is when an employee has a coworker dishonestly punch their timecard for them so that they can arrive late, leave early, or take extended breaks or lunches.

Maybe its an worker leaving 15 minutes before they're suppose to leave, or taking an extra fifteen minutes for a lunch break, but the truth is that when you add up all of those wasted minutes, the revealed payroll expenses accumulate quickly.

If you have a digital attendance system that uses RFID cards or PINS for employees to login and logout, you still may be vulnerable. In fact, a very recent study of SMBs reported that a shockingly high percentage either wrote down their colleagues digital password and admitted to using a friends PIN in so they could arrive late or leave early undetected.

Now that we've defined buddy punching, maybe your curious as to what you can do to eliminate it. Well one technology that allows you to completely stop it is by buying a time clock system that utilizes biometric identifiers.

By using a biometric time clock system, employees can only punch in and out when they are standing in front of the time clock.

The new clocks are easy to use and all workers have to do is swipe their fingerprint on a biometric scanner and the clock will register them as entering or leaving.

If you are buying a biometric time clock, be aware that although fingerprint recognition has grown by leaps and bounds, some biometric systems that use a fingerprint scan only, may not be compatible with a small percentage of your workers - usually under 5%. The main reason for this is because some employees may have worn fingerprints which prevents them from getting quick scans. Be sure to find a clock that offers a backup PIN system or RFID card as a small percent of your employees may need to rely on this to punch in and out.

By taking a step against buddy punching, your company can shrink your payroll costs and help your business save thousands of dollars each every year!
