The summer months often mean music, with festivals springing up on either coast and blooming pretty much everywhere in between, as well. But the development of summer music festival season has given rise to a new phenomenon: that of the mini-comedy festival. More and more often recently, major music events such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and the Sasquatch Music Festivals have been adding live stand-up to their lineups, and many are pulling in major figures in comedy.
While most critics are going to be highlighting the musical acts that are going to be at Sasquatch this year, we thought we'd give you a heads-up on the funnymen and women that will have you doubled over in laughter.
Aziz Ansari: Aziz Ansari might look a little familiar to you. He's everywhere these days, appearing on late-night talk shows when he's not acting on the NBC comedy series Parks and Recreation. He also starred on MTV's shows Human Giant back in 2007 and 2008. Overall, things have been looking up for the young comedian, and they'll be looking up for you when you hear his observational humor at Sasquatch this year, as well. Ansari has an eye for humor in everyday places like Cold Stone Creamery and CVS. He also has a taste for the finer things in lifedon't skimp on the thread count when you sell him linens, or he'll do a whole investigative stand-up act about it.
Garfunkel and Oates: Featuring one of the most brilliant names for a comedy duo ever, Garfunkel and Oates borrow the monikers of pop music's two most overlooked "second bananas." In reality, this duo is made up of Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome, who met while working on a short film and decided to start a comedy music project. Their songs have earned them quite a lot of notice for their sillyand sometimes dirtybrand of humor. "F*** You," for example, is a sweet little song about being in love that occasionally slips in to being too honest. "Me, You and Steve" is about a date that would be perfect if your date's best friend would simply go away. And "Pregnant Women Are Smug" is pretty self-explanatory.
Rob Riggle: Rob Riggle is another one of those comics that looks uncannily familiar. Fans of The Daily Show will know him right off the bat. He's big, he's loud and he's a proud USMC lieutenant colonel. Riggle's spots on the show were known being pretty over the top and exuberant, and there's no doubt that his stand-up act at Sasquatch won't be any different. A big part of his act is his voluminous personality. Don't expect him to dial it down anywhere below 10.
Those are three acts that you absolutely can't pass up when Sasquatch comes to George, Wash. this summer. It's a full weekend of music and comedy, with some of the finest live acts anywhere in the country. Don't let tickets slip by you, though. Get Sasquatch Music Festival tickets today on StubHub.
