We have all indulged in a spot of DIY in our lifetimes, to save us money on getting someone in to do it for us. Some of us are quite good at fixing up our homes, but some people should really stick to their day jobs.
An insurance company has recently conducted research and found that DIY home improvements mishaps have accounted for one hundred and seventy three million pounds worth of claims in the last year. The failed efforts have caused damaged to neighbouring properties, internal walls and possessions, causing distress and embarrassment to all involved.. But getting someone who knows what they are doing in to help may not be the solace you were after, as ten percent of the damage caused was attributed to professional workmen, which is a worrying figure.
The royal society for the prevention of accidents has stated that more than two hundred thousand people went to hospital last year with do it yourself related injuries, a staggering statistic. Top accidents included knife and scalpel injuries, saw accidents, and problems related to screwdrivers and power drills. Ten percent of the damage caused is attributed to professional workmen, which is a worrying figure.
The majority of home owners who caused damage to their houses and their surrounding environments were not expected to foot the whole cost of the bill, with neighbours taking some of the monetary burden.
Make sure that when doing DIY you are careful! And have a valid Home Insurance policy that will cover you in the case of accidental damage to your home.
