Definition of Content

Online business owners often consider content their primary resource mainly because it drives traffic and makes sales. It also makes them an authority on their subject and gives them credibility and likability, which are all buying triggers. Content also helps website owners market their business.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of business owners who write their content with no purpose or direction. While their content may be great, it's missing the key ingredients that make it beneficial to their business plan.

Whether your content is short, like a blog post, or a larger piece, like a report or e-book, it's got to have purpose! There are a few reasons why website owners need quality, purposeful content. It needs to drive traffic to their site, increase search engine optimization, drive traffic to a sales page, build a list, boost credibility and authority, and generate income.

Sometimes, content may have more than one purpose. For instance, a report may be used to build a list, but it may also contain affiliate links and therefore generate income. It can also have links back to a sales page promoting products or services. This is why it is so important that content have a purpose. No purpose means website owners are missing valuable opportunities to build their business.

There are some business owners who, while very smart, simply cannot write. This is when they should look elsewhere for quality website content. And while there are tons of sites out there that offer it free or extremely cheap, website owners need to be leery of these sites. Most of them generate content that's, at best, second rate or it's written by people who don't even speak English very well. Do you want that kind of content on your site? I don't!

What's the saying? You get what you pay for' . . . remember that! Make sure you're buying quality content with a purpose. The definition of content for online business owners is simple. It's blog posts, reports, articles, e-books . . . whatever, that drive traffic to your site, build your list, increase search engine optimization, and in the end, benefit your business plan!
