subject: Software That Changed The World [print this page]

It is common human tendency, that we usually remember things that are visible to our naked eyes. Say for instance, it is the appearance of an iPad that keeps us mesmerized and that is what intrigues us to have one of our own. Not many of us care to remember all the software that enables the functionality of the amazing iPad. Similar is the case with other technological devices, it is usually the hardware or the appearance we remember, while software are long forgotten.

Now, as the year 2012 comes to an end, I would like to take this opportunity the reveal some of the best software that have been developed in this world so far and have changed our lives to a great extent:

Mosaic There was a time in the sphere of technology when websites were just text documents coupled with a few links on every page. It was this sense of gloominess that led two individuals from the US National Center for Supercomputing Applications to create a web browser that appeared stylish and attractive. Users could now add images along with their text, and it also provided an audio/video support. This is what came to be know as Mosaic and was the most reliable web browser then. While Mosaic disappeared over the years, it was their philosophy that still exists in most browsers that we use today.

Windows 95 It was a difficult task to decide which version of the Windows deserves to be on this list. There was windows XP that is now considered the most worldwide used operating system, even though it has been over a decade since its release. But the most deserving of the lot due to the impact that it sent out during the time of its release would be Windows 95. This software is what got personal computers into the mainstream and brought about the concept of plug and play.

Lotus 1-2-3 Let me start by mentioning that the excel would have never been possible had the Lotus 1-2-3 not been created. Though it was not the first spreadsheet software as VisiCalc was already in existence during the launch of the former. But the benefits that Lotus 1-2-3 extended to its users were many including an automatic tax calculator. There were charts that were added on this software and there were further additions such as macros and multiple worksheets later.

Now, with several software development companies in india and across the globe, there are an array of products available that can be customized as per the users needs. Personalization is the key to software development in this day and age when users are desperately looking forward to a more enhanced experience through their technological devices.
