Rajasthan is also known as the royal state of India where old and new coexists in harmony. Fairs and festivals are intricately woven into the colorful culture of this state. The fairs and festivals beautifully mirror the rich cultural heritage and glorious history of this state. Rajasthan is a desert which comes alive during the festivities and looks as colorful as rainbow.

One of the most famous festivals is Pushkar Fair which is held in the month of November every year during Karthik Poornima and is celebrated for twelve days. It is a cultural festival combined with a grand trade fair with a lot of entertainment. The festival attracts scores of locals as well as tourists. The fair is also renowned for the cattle fair which is perhaps one of the biggest of that kind in the world. The beautifully decorated cattle add uniqueness to the show. With a lot of religious significance, the fair attracts many saints and holy people as well.

Jaisalmer Desert Festival is the occasion when the city comes alive with colors, dance, music and cultural activities. The festival is celebrated during the months of January and February when several musicians, dancers and performers from all over the state flock to Jaisalmer to be a part of it. Camel, the ship of the desert is the centre of attraction in this festival. Camels are decked up from head to toe in a traditional style, all looking very attractive. Camel races attract many spectators from far and wide. During the festival, the mesmerizing light and sound show on the unfathomable sand dunes on a moonlit night never fails to captivate the hearts of the visitors.

Elephant Festival coincides with the festival of Holi and is celebrated in the pink city Jaipur in the month of March/April every year. Elephants are the main attractions of the celebration which take part in many interesting activities like elephant parade and race, elephant beauty contest, elephant polo etc.

Karni Mata Fair is a religious fair which is celebrated in Deshnok in Bikaner. The festival is celebrated in the months of March/April and again in September/ October every year. The Karni Mata Temple is famous for being the abode of more than 20,000 rats that are considered the incarnations of the goddess and the festival is celebrated in honor of Karni Mata.

Urs is celebrated in Ajmer Sharif which is a popular festival that is celebrated in honor of the Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti. It is celebrated at the famous Dargah Sharif in Ajmer and attracts people from different religious backgrounds.
