Ayurvedic Medical Experts classified the people physiologically as per their body types or doshas, namely, Vata Pitta and Kapha. Now, according to these doshas, Ayurvedic Medical experts or Professionals suggest foods to be included in the regular diet in order to get rid of diseases and to be healthy. According to Ayurveda, diseases or health disorders are caused due to imbalance of three doshas. They suggest foods and diet plan to balance three doshas and to improve health naturally.

Here we discuss some of the Ayurveda diet plan; they suggest diet plans that are common to three doshas and also suggest specific foods to be added in the diet as per their type or dosha. First of all, Ayurveda establishes the principle that Human Digestive system is akin to herbivorous animals and it is well designed to digest and assimilate Vegetarian food only and hence this system promotes Vegetarian food and life style. Vegetarian life style not only keeps you healthy but also reduces the risk of ill health and diseases, namely Cardiovascular diseases, heart disorders, diabetes, cancer and hypertension to greater extent.

As per their suggestions, people of Vata type or Dosha should include the following foods in their diet. Cereals namely Oats, Brown rice, whole wheat and cashew nuts, brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds, Green beans, carrots, cucumber, asparagus, beet root, artichoke, onions, okra, watercress, olives, sesame seeds, lentils, Soya beans, walnuts and fruits like fresh figs, avocados, bananas, kiwis, berries, dates, grapefruits, lemons, oranges, pineapples, plums, papaya fruits, and spices namely cardamom, cloves, garlic, ginger, nutmeg, turmeric, black pepper should be included in the regular diet, and they should avoid dried fruits and raw vegetables.

Balancing foods for Pitta type or dosha are bell pepper, cauliflower, cucumber, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, leafy greens, artichoke, parsley, beans, potatoes, and mangoes, apples, dates, prunes, raisins, pomegranates, watermelon, pears, and barley, cooked rice, wheat, millets, oats, quinoa, brown rice, rye cereals, coconuts, and soy beans, kidney beans legumes to be taken in the diet. Red lentils, flax seeds, macadamia nuts, almonds, pine nuts, pistachios, pecans should be avoided. Coriander, honey, fennel, turmeric, saffron, and mint are also balancing foods. Dairy products should be taken in moderation.

Balancing foods for Kapha type or dosha are apricots, Cherries, apples, cranberries, figs, raisins, pears, pomegranates, in fruits section and Bell peppers, Carrots, cabbage, egg plant, celery, radish, green beans, okra, onions, lettuce, spinach, potatoes, cauliflower, in vegetables section, and granola, millets, barley, oats, amaranth, corn, buck wheat, quinoa in grains or cereals section and chick peas, lima beans, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, lentils, pinto beans, in nuts and seeds section and oregano, anise, basil, black pepper, cardamom, cumin seeds, coriander, fenugreek, cloves, mustard seeds, garlic, ginger in spices section, to be included in the diet. Rosemary, star anise, spearmint, turmeric, buttermilk, walnuts, almonds, pecans, peanuts, pistachios, white rice, wheat, and bitter vegetables should be avoided.
