subject: 4 Easy Home-made Dog Treat Recipes [print this page]

Aside from a healthy meal, youd also want to give your pup a treat to keep them happy and even avoid degenerative myelopathy. Dog treats are found anywhere these days and you can definitely get them in the pet car isle on your grocery store. But sometimes, purchasing these branded pet treats can get expensive, and if you want to save, making your own dog treats is the way to go.

Simple foods like bones and even dried meat can be good treats for your dog, but if you want something a little fancier, here are a few recipes that you can make at home.

Bachelor dog treats

Combine 4 eggs, 1 ounce of vegetable oil, 3 ounces of cornmeal, 1 tablespoon of honey, 8 ounces of chicken stock, 5 ounces of all-purpose flour, 10 ounces of whole wheat flour and 1 cup of peanut butter. Form the dough and turn them into small cookies. Bake for a few minutes till they turn golden brown. This is a basicrecipe for a fool-proof dog treat that any dog will love.

Carob crunchers

Combine 1 cup of rice flour, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 cup of carob powder, 1 tsp. vanilla extract and 3/4 cups water until it forms a dough. Roll it out and cut it into any form you like with cookie cutters and bake them. This recipe works well with dogs that have problems with digesting wheat.

Cinnamon bites

For a super special treat, mix together 2 cups of whole wheat flour, 1/4 tsp. of salt, 1 tsp. of baking powder, 1/4 cup of canola oil, 1/2 cup of milk or water, 1 egg, 1 tsp. of cinnamon, 2 Tbsp. of honey, and 1/4 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts that are finely chopped. Shape the dough and bake till golden brown. Think of this as a cinnamon roll for dogs. You can even add a mixture of cream cheese and milk on the top as icing.

Bacon dog treats

Bacon is probably one of the most used ingredients for dog treats. For this, youll need 4 pieces of diced bacon, an egg, 1/3 cups of peanut butter, 1 tbsp. maple syrup, 3 tbsp. water, 1/2 cup of soy flour, 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour and 1/2 cup of wheat germ. Mix till it forms into a dough and roll out to cut into cookies. Bake till theyre lightly brown.

As far as dog treat ingredients go, never place in chocolate or any type of chocolate product in the mix. Chocolate is actually poisonous to dogs and when digested, it may even cause death. You can also add in vitamins and minerals to dog teats to help dogs get more nutrients, such as adding vitamin B for dogs that have degenerative myelopathy.
