subject: Women Upset Over Mirena Intrauterine Devices Negative Effects [print this page]

Mirena is brand name for an intrauterine device which may be inserted in a womans uterus for five years in order to prevent pregnancy. The Mirena IUD is believed to be 99 percent effective protection against pregnancy if it is used correctly. IUDs are commonly a perfect choice for busy and sexually active women. It is a mess-free option and does not interrupt their monthly period. Most importantly, they may have sex anytime without the trouble of contraception preparation. Bayer, the manufacturer of Mirena IUDs, announces about their products 99 percent effectiveness when it is used correctly. Despite its 99 percent effective rate, it is certainly not risk free and is not suitable for everyone. In fact, there are a number of women out there who are complaining about the IUDs negative side effects, as reported by the social media. There are a rising number of Mirena lawsuits which are filed in behalf of those injured Mirena users. This article may help you understand more about the serious side effects associated with Mirena IUDs which put the life of some women in danger.

Uterine Perforation

Uterine perforation is considered as the most serious side effect of Mirena. It may be associated with injury to surrounding blood vessels or viscera such as the bladder or intestine. If not diagnosed at the time of the procedure, it may result in massive hemorrhage or sepsis. Risk factors include cervical stenosis during trans-cervical procedures or decreased strength of the myometrial wall as in pregnancy or menopause.

Ectopic Pregnancy

Pregnancy that occurs while Mirena is in use runs the high risk of ectopic pregnancy. This so-called ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized develops outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tube. Signs of ectopic pregnancy may include unusual bleeding or abdominal pain. Ectopic pregnancy is an emergency that requires immediate medical attention and often surgery. Ectopic pregnancy can cause internal bleeding, infertility and even death.

Mirena Crash

Mirena Crash is the name people have given to a set of side effects that occur once the IUD is removed. Some people report depression, bloating, the general feeling of the world crashing down on you. The Mirena causes a big change in your body so you have to expect to have a little recovery time after you stop - it's like giving up smoking. It may not be good for you, but the effects of quitting drive some people crazy.
