A document issued by the government of a country to certify the identity and nationality is known as passport. The passport is for international travel and secures the identity and nationality of holder. The passport contains the information about holder such as, name, date of birth, gender and place of birth. A passport does not represent the right or the place of residence of passport holder in the country that issued the passport.
Types of Passports
Full Passports
Following are some of the kinds of full passports
Ordinary Passports
This is one of the most issued kinds of passport, issued to citizens and other nationals. It is possible to register the children in parents ordinary passport, it renders the passport a functionality, equal to a family passport.
Official Passport
Official passport is issued to the government officials for their work related travels. It is also known as service passport and special passport.
Diplomatic Passport
Diplomatic passport is issued for work related international travel, to diplomats and other government officials. Diplomatic passport and diplomatic immunity are not the same thing, having diplomatic passport is not the equivalent of having diplomatic immunity. Diplomatic immunity comes from the government of the country in relation to which diplomatic status is claimed.
Emergency Passport
When the passport is lost or stolen the emergency passport is issued, and for those who do not have time to replace the passport. Laissez passer is often used for these purposes.
Collective Passport
When a group travels to a particular destination, such as school trip to a specified country, the collective passport is issued.
Family Passport
Family passport is issued to the members of a family such as son, daughter, mother and father. There is a one person who holds the passport and can travel alone or with family members. Other family members cannot travel without the passport holder. The person who is not a passport holder cannot travel alone unless accompanied by passport holder.

The countries always follow the standards recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization in issuance of passport.
Standard Passport Format
The name of issuing country, a national symbol, description of the passport, whether it is ordinary passport, official passport or a diplomatic passport, if the passport biometric passport, these are the things includes in the standard passport format. Inside the passport, there is a page, named as title page that contains the country name. Title page is followed by a data page, which contains the information about bearer and issuing authority. In the passport the blank pages are available for the foreign countries to affix visas and to stamp in and exit.
Machine readable passport standards
International Civil Aviation Organization has also issued the standards for machine readable passports, with an area set aside where most of the information written as text and printed in a manner suitable for optical character recognition.
