The capital city of the state of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad is located on the Deccan Plateau on the banks of Musi River. The recent establishment of many software firms and foreign companies in Hyderabad has made this place a major IT hub of India. There are also many pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Pearl trading in Hyderabad is quite popular giving the city the name- City of Pearls. Hyderabad is a much sought tourist destination with many places to explore like the Chowmahalla Palace, Charminar, Mecca Masjid and Golkonda fort.

A great pilgrimage centre and a paradise for nature lovers, Srisailam is situated in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh state. This holy town is nestled in the thick green hills of Nallamala forests on the banks of River Krishna at an altitude of 1500 feet above sea level. The main temple here is dedicated to Mallikarjunaswamy (a form of Shiva) and Devi Bhramaramba (a form of Parvathi). Sikhara Darsanam, Ista Kameswari Temple, Patala Ganga, Nagarjuna Sagar Tiger Reserve, Akka Mahadevi Caves and Srisailam Dam are other interesting places worth a visit.

Srisailam is a popular weekend getaway for the Hyderabadis. The travel through dense forests is quite pleasing for the busy city dwellers. Srisailam does not have an airport or railway station of its own. But it is well connected by road from Hyderabad.

The nearest railway station from Srisailam is 180 kilometres away at Kurnool. Another one is at Markapur Road which is quite far at 222 kilometres. There are many trains departing from Kacheguda and Secunderabad stations in Hyderabad to Kurnool which reach in approximately 4 hours. Some of them are Wainganga Express (12252), Kongu Express (12648), Bangalore Express (12786) and Tungabhadra Express (17607). On reaching Kurnool one may take a bus or taxi to reach Srisailam.

There are plenty of private buses plying from Hyderabad to Srisailam every half an hour. The APSRTC (Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation) also provide excellent service to travellers. The bus fare ranges from Rs. 100 to Rs. 200 depending on the facilities availed. Private cabs may be hired from Hyderabad to Srisailam. This will be quite comfortable and time saving while going with family and groups, though it may be more expensive than by bus. The fare depends on the type of car and number of persons travelling.

Driving a car all the way from Hyderabad to Srisailam is also a good option as it is a scenic drive through the forests. But one should be an experienced driver as the ghat roads could be quite treacherous with many hairpin curves. It would be advisable to reach Srisailam by evening as the ghat road remains closed at night from 9.00 pm to 6.00 am.
