subject: Why Do I Choose Shared Server Hosting? [print this page] Hosting your web pages on a dedicated serverHosting your web pages on a dedicated server. basically that means a server all of your own (dedicated ) as opposed to shared hosting.
Bare in mind also that all websites are not created equal many languish in some dim and dark corner of the Internet unloved by Google and Yahoo and the other search engines and can only be found by their adoring owners who know the secret URL to view the pages!
And if you have one of those sites, never to list at the top of the results pages, One I sympathise I've had a few and Two do you really want to be paying a couple of hundred dollars a month for a non commercially viable site? Shared server hosting wins it hands down every time until your site is making money it is common sense to keep your expense's down agreed?
OK lets deal with a few more pro's and con's... Over the years the cost of hosting has fallen in real terms, this is because One the technology has improved in leaps and bounds and Two the number of companies competing for your hosting dollar has grown dramatically, and while they fight it out to be the most competitively priced we the website owners are in a win win situation.
Don't you just love it when that happens! But please remember the maxim cheaper s not always better! When choosing your web host... more on that in another article, back to the pro's and con's,
Reliability I was reading on a website about sites becoming all jumbled up on shared servers? OK hmm maybe? or was it a scare tactic to drive the unwary to dedicated servers? Yes it is feasible but a good hosting co... limits the number of clients on a server and has buffers and redundancy to counter any instances of that occurring!
To me that is no longer a viable reason not to use shared server hosting. Slow loading speeds when the sites of other webmasters are busy stopping your site from fast loading! That is a good point and Yes that I can see it been an issue but, at the risk of repeating myself quality hosting stops that from ever becoming a real concern.
Load speed and server balance are maintained and monitored and, sites that prove to be popular are closely monitored and the respective web-master phoned and arrangements are made concerning the hosting of sites that are suddenly demanding major bandwidth usage... I know this for fact and it is a major factor in who's shared server I'd choose for hosting.
