subject: How To Choose Your Ideal Beachwear? [print this page]

With spring already upon us and temperatures starting to ratchet up, the frequency of the visits to the pool and the nearby beaches and ponds is sure to increase by a good margin. Which brings us to an important aspect of water wading: what to wear when you are treading the waters?

Well, this might look like a cakewalk for some at first glance, but choosing your beachwear requires immense thought and also a bit of calibration, for, you dont want to take a chance with your body and risk injuring it. And, of course, you would definitely want to avoid any embarrassing slip-ups or any of those fashion faux pas while making hay in the sunshine.

Hence, it is always better to start from scratch when choosing your ideal beachwear and keep in mind all the parameters of selection before zeroing in on one.

Body type

First things first, determine your body-type, because when it comes to beachwear, the adage one size fits all doesnt hold good. Beachwear comes in several shapes and sizes, each specially made to suit the wide-ranging figures of men and women. So, depending on your body-type, categorise yourself as skinny, slender, toned, healthy, plump, fat et cetera, and choose your beachwear accordingly. This is a basic exercise, and it is a must, because, certain types of beachwear look good only on select body-types. Like, for example, a blouson swimsuit might look good on a plump lady, but the sight might be completely hideous even when the same is adorned on a well-toned girl. Similarly, a bandeau on a plump lady would be a worst-case scenario. So, narrow down your choices after trying out all varieties, and use discretion in making your final choice.

Size

Size matters a lot when it comes to beachwear, so choose the size that fits you best. And dont forget the fact that different beachwear companies use different scales for measuring the size. So, always make a point to try out any outfit before making the purchase.

Fabric type

Now comes the most important step. Beachwear is designed so as to protect your private and sensitive organs while you are making a splash in the water or when you are enjoying yourself poolside or by the beach -- in the sun . So, it is highly suggested that you exercise full caution when choosing your beachwear fabric a point which most of the beachwear-enthusiasts calmly ignore.

Historically, it is seen that, certain fabrics like nylon, spandex and even velvet dont bode well for certain people who are allergic to them. Usually they cause skin rashes, but there are chances of even catching some serious allergies which can eventually jeopardize your health, thus defeating the very purpose of beachwear. So, regardless of whether you find any beachwear comfortable or glamorous, dont buy it unless it suits your skin type, because, after all, health is wealth.

Purpose

While the basic purpose behind beachwear is the same, there are many subordinate purposes for which people prefer to slip-in to their beachwear. Some of the more popular ones being swimsuit modeling, water-surfing, swimming or playing other water sports, tanning or just having a leisure time in the water. The important point to keep in mind here is that, the beachwear outfits differ vastly from one activity to the other, depending on what the job demands. Like, for example, for swimming, women prefer a high-tech one-piece swimming costume(preferably by Speedo) -- to reduce the inherent traction and improve their overall performance, rather than a loose two-piece string bikini. Similarly, a guy might opt for board shorts -- made of quick-drying synthetic material -- for water-surfing, instead of a swim brief. So, pinpoint the exact purpose of your donning a swimwear and only then take the plunge.

It doesnt end here, there are certain beachwear for women which help them keep in shape while they are having a go in water. These are called body shaping swimwear. With the figure-conscious populace constantly on the rise, these body shaping bikinis and swimsuits have assumed top position on most of the womens priority list. They are perfect for women who are overly concerned about maintaining their carefully-sculpted figure, and are also good for marginally overweight women.

There are also some beachwear that are specifically designed(sometimes bespoke) to fit the tastes of people of a certain region or suit the sensibilities of a particular clique of people. These variations are mostly found in womens beachwear. The prominent among these are camkini(camisole + bikini), burqini(burqa + bikini) and tankini( tank top + bikini).

A gentle annotation here: if the beachwear is only supposed to add more glamour, increase the oomph or sex appeal, or is only meant for the purpose of flaunting, several meaningful additions to the umpteen swimsuits can be had. These additions, called cover-ups, not only up your glamour quotient, but also aggrandize your whole overall look and comfort feel. Some of the noted ones in this category are sarongs, tunics, kaftans, short cover-ups and long cover-ups.

Bodily idiosyncrasies

The above title might baffle you at first, but over a duration of time this idea has gained prime importance with beachwear designers. Well, to get things cleared first, the aforementioned title refers to the simple fact that not all bodies have the same proportions. Meaning, when we are generalizing the measurements of the people of a certain size, we are not paying due attention to the odd bodily features of certain people. This means that we are essentially making some people wear ill-fitting beachwear, despite of those being of their own size. Like, for example, a man with a large buttock, not matter how slim he is, might not find a swim brief of his size comfortable. Likewise, a woman with a unusually large bust and slender frame might find it tough to fit into a bikini top of her size. So, just to increase your convenience, you can take the pain of browsing through the select-few labels that offer custom-fitting beachwear and buy the one that best fits your bill. And, although such beachwear might be a little bit on the higher side in terms of price, you will soon realize that every penny you spent was worth the comfort you experienced.
