subject: Christian Suffers From Sexual Dreams [print this page] A woman contacted me recently about some dreams she had been having which were bothering her. The dreams were of a sexual nature. She is a Christian woman and she was concerned about why she was having these dreams.
Heres what she said:
I just want to know why it is that I dream dreams at times where there is sexual content to it. The ones that are romantic in nature are fine, but then there are the ones that I can see myself having relations with a man and times where I don't see myself, but know that it is me in the dream. I don't go around throughout the day thinking of sex or any man in that way, so why would I be having these types of dreams? This disturbs me because I feel there is no foundation for me to be having them, and I don't want to feel that I am not pure in God's sight. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
My Response:
Let me lay out some possible roots of a sexual dream.
I may have an evil heart.
My dreams can reflect my hearts. If Im reading or viewing pornography or fantasizing about illicit sex, I will dream about that. I would need to repent and stop sinning.
It may just be a symbol.
Sometimes the things we dream about are not to be taken literally. They may be a symbol of something else. For example, Im a workaholic. I love working. When I take a vacation a part of me feels guilty. If I were to ever get over that, I would have resolved that inner battle between the workaholic in me and the part of me that wants to kick back and take it easy. As I resolve this issue, I may have a dream that reflects that. Symbolically, I may dream of myself having sexual intercourse with a woman who is not a workaholic and can relax easily showing me these two parts of me have come together and united. Since this is just a symbol, theres nothing wrong with the dream.
It may be my bodys sexual rhythm.
Everyones body has a natural rhythm, both men and women. As part of this rhythm, there are times when we experience sexual tension. Just like when I dream about needing to use the bathroom and wake up to find I really have to go, I may dream about sex at a time when theres stronger sexual tension in my body. God built these rhythms into our bodies. So I dont consider that an evil dream. Its just a dream showing the condition of my body.
I may be under demonic attack:
In our culture today, people tend to shy away from thinking demons influence them (or even exist), but demons are very real and they do interact with us. Throughout history and even today, there are many recorded events where people say they were sexually molested by a demon in their dreams. In my work with an online Bible college, I have surveyed hundreds of Christians and asked them about this. About 15-20% have said they feel they have been molested sexually by a demon in a dream. Thats quite a lot. So, this is not such an unusual occurrence.
So, what can you do?
First, you pray for a covering of Christs blood over you, and the room. You bind all attack of the enemy and command him to leave. Also, try to focus on Jesus as you fall asleep at night. If you are engaging in sexual sin, confess that sin and ask for the cleansing blood of Jesus to wash over you and put on His robe of righteousness. If you feel that you have an addiction, you may want to talk with someone with a Christian counseling degree. And if you awaken and are under demonic attack, call upon the name of Jesus to protect and defend you. Bind and cast away any demonic attack in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you. I have to sit and really ponder what the possibilities are within your answers below. They each make a lot of sense and I will sit and reflect on what I feel the answer to my dream is. You have my permission to use this dream and my name in your writing if you would like to.
Dreams are really wonderful, especially the ones that I have where they speak prophetically and the ones that take place in real life exactly the way I have dreamed them. This used to be a regular occurrence in the past, and I used to journal them as I had them, and compared them to when they came about in real life.
