Indian history shows the level of popularity and the charm of the card games in our country and when it comes to rummy, no one can resist the joy of this intellectually stimulating game. The Rummy game is popular with the old and the young alike. It is a complete family game. The popularity of the traditional Rummy game is very high amongst the middle aged women of urban India who very often sit every afternoon in each others houses or in clubs and play rummy games. In the traditional rummy game the players sit across each other on a table and play with real cash.

Traditional rummy or say straight rummy can be played between 2-6 players with a standard deck of 52 cards. equal numbers of cards are dealt to all depending on the number of players involved. the dealer of the game can be chosen at random. This deal moves in a clockwise direction after each round.

Once the dealer is selected, starting with the player on his left, he will deal equal number of cards among all players and the remaining cards are put face down at the center of the table which serve as the stock. One card from the top is then taken out and kept face up on the side of stock to start the discard pile

Once all cards are dealt players can sort their cards accordingly.

Draw: each player has to draw one card at a time either from the stock or the discard pile.

Discard: players have to discard one card at a time from their hand onto the discard pile

Show of cards: cards have to be grouped into various approved combinations of RUN (cards of same suit in sequence) and SET (cards of different ranks in different suits)The same are then shown on the table to all the players, at the time of declaration by self or by any of the other players. The points are then disbursed amongst the players

In case, If the stock pile runs out then the topmost card from the discard pile is taken away and the remaining cards are shuffled and placed face down on the table as the new stock

Thus the Rummy game proceeds and goes on till the players wish.

It is an interesting and fun loving game and its popularity has no boundaries or age limit. It is mentally stimulating and also offers an opportunity of social interaction. It social acceptance has led to this form of game being adopted in an online version
