The museums of Munich are some of the best in Germany, if not the world. Weekend breaks in Munich hotels are popular for a number of reasons, but the museums of the city certainly make up a large part of its attraction.

The City Museum

Munich City Museum, known locally as Mnchner Stadtmuseum, is a fantastic starting point. Here you will be able to learn about the history of the city and how it has developed over the years through photographs, maps and a number of ancient artefacts. Some of the rooms are created in the style of different periods to help bring the history to life.

The German Museum

The German Museum (Deutsches Museum, locally) is one of the most important in the whole of Germany, and a worthwhile attraction to visit when you stay in Munich. Hotels located near to the River Isar will be within easy access; it is found on an island on the river, and it dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. There are exhibits on a huge range of different areas including mining, transport and aviation, with the world's first motor car among the highlights.

The Toy Museum

The Toy Museum makes for an interesting few hours to while away for the young and the young at heart. You will find a large collection of historical toys here, making it an excellent choice for children and toy collectors alike.

The Museum of Man and Nature

This is one of the most interesting museums in the city and explores the place of humans in the world and how we have influenced it. It is a great option for a family day out with many interesting exhibits perfect for children.

Bayerisches Nationalmuseum

If you are an architecture afficionado you wont be disappointed with a visit to the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, situated on Prinzregentenstrasse in close proximity to many of the top Munich hotels. The building is constructed in a range of styles including Renaissance and Romanesque and inside are a range of exhibits from German history dating back to the medieval period and sculptures and artefacts dating back to the prehistoric period.
