subject: The Vacation Season [print this page] As we are approaching the years end, the last thing on anybodys mind is work. All we can think about is celebrating, partying and vacationing at some exotic location. December is rightly called the slack month, as there is barely any work done. All people do is sit and their desks and procrastinate about the various things they wish to do during the holiday week of Christmas and new years. It is that time of year when everyone goes on vacation and set of to some destination outside of the city. People stuck in the city go for parties and paint the town red till wee hours of the morning. Popular holiday destinations like Goa are chock a block full and booking tickets to such destinations is nearly impossible, unless you have very deep pockets.
Luckily for us, we live in the massive subcontinent of India where we are spoilt with choices, as to where to go on a vacation. From the sunny and sandy beaches of Goa to the extreme cold of the Himalayas to the beautiful back waters in Kerela, it is all within a stones throw of each other, not literally, but you know what I mean. Most people would have to travel to a different country in order to see such diverse places. There are quite a few road trips you could also take across different routes in the country. The most common one being the drive from Mumbai to Goa, it is a smooth 677km drive across the NH17 highway. Along the way there are various places where one could take a pit stop, stop at the beautiful untouched beaches of Ganpatipule or buy some of the tastiest mangoes you have ever eaten while driving past Ratnagiri. You could also visit the Karnala bird sanctuary or sit on the banks of the Vashishti River.
Another slightly more difficult road trip would be from Dehradun to Nainital. Though the distance is comparatively less (355km) it is a slightly more off-road. Drive past the Kumaon Hills in Uttarakhand which made for a spectacular view and go for a serene boat ride on the Naini Lake. However a road trip like this would be ideal in an SUV, as the rough terrain and narrow roads would need an SUV to conquer and I think an SUV is the most luxurious car one can have, so in my opinion they are ideal for all sorts of roads trips.
