subject: Mercedes Is Well Known For Luxury [print this page]

When individuals even hear the name Mercedes, they have images of luxury appearing in their minds. They are the cars of doctors, lawyers, and movie stars. The vehicles have even appeared in James Bond movies and have been sung about by rock stars in the 1970's. These sedans have long been seen as status symbols and continue to be head turners on the road or down the block. If someone is driving this automobile, he or she is viewed as having some sort of power or money. The company that produces them began in Germany and has been around since the late 1800's.

Originally, the company that produced this line of automobiles in 1926 was called Daimler-Benz but when it merged with Mercedes, the new name combination became its trademark. The 1931 Mercedes-Benz 170 became popular from day one. It had four-wheel independent suspension, which was a remarkable development in the automotive industry. The other sedans that rolled off of this manufacturer's assembly lines over the years were just as impressive and well respected.

One of the symbols that most people recognize on these vehicles is the hood ornament, which is also the company's insignia. The hood ornament is a star with three points, a style that had originated with Daimler. The star is contained by a circular wreath. The three points are said to point to the fact that these engines could travel on air, land, and sea. By air, the insignia is referring to the fact that there are aircrafts that contain the company's machinery and by sea is referring to the ships powered by a version of the engine, as well. On land, we are quite familiar with the automobiles, but the manufacturer also makes bicycles and robot cars.

Over the years, Mercedes has consistently proven to be a high quality car. The company's cars have been tested over the years against a variety of vehicles made by other manufacturers and it has consistently finished near the top of its class on all counts. When it temporarily slipped from the upper positions, the engineers immediately resolved the issues and it shot right back up to being among top performers. This company has been an award-winning manufacturer of passenger vehicles for most of its existence. Although this well respected auto started out in Germany, it is now produced in factories around the world including on the continents of Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia.
