subject: Finding Your Style Eyeglasses: Cat-eye Vintage [print this page]

Its common in our culture to recycle certain trends. The past few years, our society has been doing quite a good job at bringing back some of the old fashion trends of the early to mid twentieth century, and prescription eyeglasses have certainly not been left out! Vintage eyewear is the growing trend of todays hottest styles. Femininity can be hard to come by when a general style - for both sexes - is loosely lumped together...much like the recently popular: Hipster look. Therefore, with these throwback eyeglass choices, the ever-popular cat-eye styled glasses frames also made a comeback! If you are the girliest of girls, and loving this new geek chic, vintage fashion trend, perhaps youve set your sights on the cat-eye style?! Although...What do you do now? There are so many different types of cat-eye styled eyeglasses frames. Lets discuss some, and hopefully itll help you narrow down your choices a bit...

The 'MeYow' Cat!

We like to refer to the hot and spicy look from the very first cat-eye styled pair of frames of the 1950s, to the 'meYow' style! These have a very distinct shape, in which the rims appear to be an almost triangular pattern, with very sharp angles.

Slightly Curious Cat

The slightly curious cat-eye style can be seen in just about any major eyeglasses styling; however, the top rims (above the lenses) will be the slightest touch thicker than the rest of the frames. These are usually the frames that you may look at and immediately think that they are unisex, but upon further review, something innately feminine exudes from them.

Wayfarer Cat

The wayfarer cat-eye styled frames are becoming extremely popular now, as a feminine alternative to the currently trending colorful, thick plastic wayfarer frames. Eyeglasses frames like these are usually shaped exactly like the regular unisex - and fairly masculine - wayfarer frames that can be seen on just about every other person walking down the street today... However, the one big difference is a funky mix between the 'meYow' and the slightly curious cat-eye styles. Thick plastic wraps around larger lenses, and then bunches a bit extra towards the temples for a slightly different look...This is the wayfarer cat-eye style.

Choosing the perfect eyeglasses frames can be difficult. Especially now, as glasses have become such an accepted form of our inner personalities, and outer fashion trends, the choice can make a fairly large impact on your day-to-day life. However, if youve already done the work to decide that you want a pair of frames that bring you back to the the fifties or sixties, and you already know that youd like your femininity to flicker through your specs, youve already done the hard part! Cat-eye styled prescription glasses can definitely differ in looks, but hopefully with this guide, youll have a better idea of what youre looking for.
