subject: Chin Implants: Upcoming Trend [print this page]

Beauty treatments and implants are becoming more commonplace as more people are opting to change various physical features in order to enhance their look. A small or square shaped chin is one of the factors that can affect your appearance greatly. Chin implants effectively help to increase the projection of the chin and reduce the fullness around the chin, and this makes them an ideal way of imparting a soft contour to the face. According to recent reports, there has been tremendous increase in the number of women who opt for chin augmentation using botox injections. This technique is becoming increasingly popular because botox is simple to administer and is not generally associated with serious side effects.

Increase in Chin Augmentation Procedures

In recent times, there has been close to 70 percent increase in chin implants and this figure is set to grow in the coming years. Experts suggest that the surge in chin implants is because of the ease of the procedure along with the noticeable improvement it produces. Research also suggests that chin implant surged 66% in women whereas 76% in men figures that surpass the demand for breast implants which have traditionally been considered as the most popular form of cosmetic surgery. The use of botox in Vancouver also shows a growing trend especially amongst people aged 40 and above.

What is Chin Augmentation?

The procedure is an outpatient procedure performed under a local anesthesia. It uses surgical implants to alter the underlying structure of the face or involves a manipulation of the jaw bone to show dramatic results. The surgeon makes a cut from inside the mouth on the lower gum; this gives the surgeon a chance to access the chin bone. Using a bone saw or a chisel, a second cut is made through the jaw and then the jaw bone is either moved or screwed in place after which the cut is then closed with stitches and bandage. The entire procedure is completed within 2-3 hours.

The implant procedure is carried out by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or a plastic surgeon. Patients can usually return to work 3 days after the surgery. Full results are usually seen after 3 months of the procedure.

Although chin augmentation is a relatively easy surgery as compared to other procedures using botox in Vancouver, there is a possibility of side effects such as;

Swelling

Hematoma

Numbness of the lower lip

Infection

Displacement of the implant

In order to avoid such side effects, it is important to reduce chewing movements following the surgery. Therefore, patients must follow a soft food diet and drink plenty of liquids. Patients may also experience a tightening sensation near the chin; this usually subsides within a week.
