The theatre is sure resurging in the historic city that has always been a fertile ground for art and culture. With many amateur theatre groups being very active and conducting workshops and staging plays, the lost glory of theatre is back again.
Samahaara is one such amateur group that is making it big in the art arena. The group founded by two young budding theatre artistes Ratna Shekar Reddy and Anjali Parvati Koda Samahaara has already conducted numerous stage performances and theatre workshops in the city and introduced hundreds of talented actors to the stage.
It also organized three editions of the annual Samahaara Hyderabad Theatre Festival and one edition of Dramaybaaz (a theatre festival of solo performances). It provides technical and directorial services to support local theatre groups, thus becoming a driving force behind the resurgence of theatre in Hyderabad.
In order to keep the audience interested in theatre, attract new talents and increase the quality of productions, Samahaarians planning to invite theatre directors from all over India and across the world to work with actors in Hyderabad in the next few years (2013 & 2014).
Ratna Shekar, whose brainchild is Samahaara, has been relentlessly working for years to bring theatre to young people of India and bring young Hyderabadis closer to the theatre. His co-founder, Anjali Parvati Koda,is a playwright who published her first play Purushotham- He, the victim of Spiders and Pressure Cookers, when she was just 18 years old. The play gained critical acclaim.
Samahaara has recently launched The Actors Studio Hyderabad (TASH), a non-profit theatre company in the city. The studio plans a theater workshop for two-months that culminates in a play, only to begin again with a different focus for another two months. These theatre specific, streamlined classes will take place on a regular basis.
Well, it looks like theatre lovers have better evenings and weekends!
