subject: Party Time At A Night Club [print this page]

If you're ready to party, a night club, also referred to as a disco or discotheque, could be fun place to go. There are lots of different types of clubs, including those that offer music, those that offer comedy, and those that have dancers. The live entertainment that you select will determine which clubs you'll visit. These venues serve liquor, food, and are off limits to patrons under the age of twenty-one. There is usually a cover charge, which means that a customer will have to pay a fee to be admitted into the venue. A cover charge cuts down on nonpaying customers walking in off the street for some free entertainment. It is also another means of bringing in money to pay the bands and overhead of the operation. Some clubs have dress codes as well, because they want their space to attract a certain type of crowd.

Musical acts at a night club could range from those that play pop, Top 40, country western, blues, jazz, rock, a solo performer, or even a disc jockey spinning tunes for the crowd to dance to. There are large dance floors and extravagant lighting such as strobe lights or disco balls. Strobe lights are those that flash and make the entire crowd look disjointed and surreal. Disco balls were especially popular in the seventies and eighties, although they're still around today. These are large balls of glittery sequins that project light around the dance floor to add ambience.

Night club comedy performances are often available in larger cities. This type of act has had ebbs and flows of popularity over the years. They can feature famous comedians, local up-and-coming comedians, and amateurs on open mike night. Some comics are more talented than others, but all can provide an evening of laughter. Since cocktails are sold at these performances, the acts can be funnier than if viewed sober.

A night club that features dancers might also be a strip club, meaning that the male or female performers would be taking off their clothing to music. This is a popular venue for bachelor or bachelorette parties, or just for a group of friends out for a night of merriment. Some clubs feature totally nude strippers, while others employ performers who keep on G-strings for modesty.

Going to a night club can provide an evening of entertainment. It's important to know about dress code, cover charge, and the type of performers that are featured at certain venues. Whether you prefer musicians, comedians, or strippers, you'll likely find the place for you.
