subject: Credit Report Dispute Letters: To Hike Up Your Credit Score Real Fast [print this page]

One of the most disappointing things about writing credit repair letters is that the companies who can do this for you usually charge a huge fee for drafting out a letter for you which would be sent to creditors or credit companies. You can challenge any claim that you have with credit companies or collection agencies.

Wrong reporting

It is common for companies to mix up names and other personal details and at the end, wrong reporting is done. Some cases also involve companies continuing to report a debt that has been cleared and payments caught up. These are the most common areas of dispute but you can always write a credit repair dispute letter to the credit comapnies yourself. Once the errors that appear on your credit report are removed, your credit score immediately hikes up.

Disputes related to Credit Report Errors

When you receive an accurate copy of our credit report you also know from where it is coming and what the listings are. The report would instantly tell you if there are any errors regarding loans, jobs or residence, etc. When you send out a credit repair dispute letter to a collection agency or a lending company, they are legally obliged to respond to your communication within 30 days. All erroneous information should be removed from the report. However do not expect that this action would also simultaneously remove all the genuine negative information that your report may carry. They cannot be removed even legally.

Investigation

However even if they cannot be removed, this also does not mean that you cannot ask for an investigation on all the listings that appear in your credit report. You cannot be charged for writing a letter demanding credit report repair and an investigation. The interesting part about asking for such investigations is that when a credit bureau cannot verify any item, they would usually remove it from the report.

How to write a Credit Repair Letter

Though writing such a letter may appear challenging for some, in reality it is not as tough as you imagine. These are a few things that can be done easily:

1. Find a good dispute letter template online to write your credit report dispute letter. Obviously, you would change the sample letters that appear on the original template and write your own text using your own words.

2. The letter should be addressed to all the credit bureaus. The individual websites carry address for correspondence and other contact details. If you do not have them, do a Google search to find them.

3. The mode of dispatch of the letter should be either certified mail or registered mail. Keep the mail receipt as proof of the date when the letter was dispatched.

4. When the responses from the bureaus start coming in, file them properly and keep track of them. Be patient while they make inquiries into the dispute areas.

5. In case the disputed listings continue to appear in your credit report, chances are that the bureau has found them to be authentic and hence did not remove them. If you are not convinced yet, you can write to them again, telling them why you still believe that they should be removed. Remember that you are free to request for a re-investigation. If you write again, they will look into the mater all over again.
