subject: Need To Take Headaches Seriously [print this page] There is no denying the fact that a headache is one of the most nagging illnesses occurring to a person. Rather, many of us have undergone the experience of a headache at some point or another. But, the irony is that a majority of people often most misunderstand this area of health and don't realize that there are different types of headaches, and furthermore many different causative factors accounting for them.
Well, headaches, although common, are not normal. The headache itself is a symptom of an underlying problem. Now, the foremost thing is that when discussing headache, the first distinction that we make is whether it's of a primary or secondary classification. The Primary headaches comprise of tension headaches, migraine headaches and cluster headaches. Secondary headaches are the ones related to another disease process and include infection, thrombosis, myocardial infarction, neck or head trauma, inflammation, or seizure, to name a few.
Now, lets take a brief account of a few major primary and secondary headaches:
Migraines
A migraine is described as a recurrent, throbbing sort of a moderate to severe headache. Symptoms can include visual changes, nausea, and sensitivity to light among other things. Migraines are often found to have triggers whether this is stress, certain foods, or an accident. It is important to try to distinguish what the problem is in order to attempt to manage them. In case of migraines a person should avoid chocolate and alcohol along with following a strict exercise regime and getting regular checkups of their necks.
Tension headaches
Tension headaches are the most common form of a headache. Such type of a headache can be best explained as constant pressure around the head that often feels like a tight band. The most widely observed ones include the increased muscle tension due to stress, sleep deprivation, bad posture, or eye strain and that there is probably a problem in the central nervous system.
Therefore, stress should be reduced, posture should be improved, eyes tested regularly, and potentially have a massage to relieve you from this type of a headache.
Cervicogenic headaches
Cervicogenic headaches are a form of a secondary type of headaches that arise from the top of the neck. The joints at the top of the neck when inflamed can refer pain to the back, side, and front of the head. This is usually due to bad posture, stress, and sleep deprivation among many other things.
In order to get to the cause of the problem, the neck needs to be checked. If the joints at the top of the neck can be brought back to normal function then the headaches should disappear.
In the nutshell we can conclude that, stress is generally a major factor in the occurrence of any kind of a tension. If you attempt to reduce stress, exercise regularly, and eat well in a balanced manner then this is a vital first step to completely free yourself from headaches.
