subject: How To Replace The Door And Window Of A Car? [print this page]

Car doors may have to be replaced for several reasons. The owner may want to change it because of too many visible scratches and dents that are affecting the appearance of his precious car or it may have to be replaced after the car has met with an accident.

The following read will give you an idea of how to replace the car door yourself:

*Make sure that the new door that you will use to replace the old one is of the same size and would fit perfectly in the place of the old door. Purchase appropriate wretches, door hinges and bolts, so that the new door can be fitted securely.

*The wiring that connect the door to the control computers of cars are usually surrounded by a rubber tube. Take care not to tear or damage the rubber tube while you pull it out of its recess and then push it back to reach the electrical connector. Separate the connector from the door and the tab. However, some connectors are comparatively more complicated to separate than the others. In the case of such connectors, try to pull apart the tab located the centre from the connector. Then, segregate the tab from the connector.

*Unbolt the hinges of the door. While doing this, ask someone to hold the door, so that the door does not slip out of your hands while you are almost done with unbolting the hinges. This will prevent the door from falling and getting damaged. Rest the door against the wall carefully so that it does not slip and fall down, thus, damaging the glass windows.

*Ask someone to hold the new door, so that it becomes easier for you to attach the door to the car with the hinges and bolts. Check whether the bolts and hinges have been secured tightly. Do not use the wrench to tighten the bolts as they can damage the doors if they are not aligned properly.

*Plug the car body connector to the new door connector. If the door connector of your car has more than one tab ensure that all both the tabs have been replaced in their original position. Also replace the rubber tube than encloses the wires in their original position.

*Test the switches on the new door to ensure that they are functioning perfectly. Pull up and down the windows to ensure that are working smoothly. The new door should have all the facilities that were provided by the old door.

*Ensure that the door fits perfectly when closed. If it does not, it indicates that the hinge bolts need readjustment. Loose the hinges of the doors a bit, so that the door can be shifted and readjusted such that fits well.

*Apply a thread locking fluid to ensure that the door does not get displaced or get loose as a result of vibrations, while the car is being driven. The bolts have to be unbolted one at a time so that a thin layer of thread locker can be applied on the bolt. Again tighten the bolt and repeat this process with all the other bolts that you have unbolted while replacing the door.

The above steps will give you an idea about how you can replace your old car door with a new one. If you feel that the process will be time-consuming, you can hire the services of an expert who can efficiently conduct car door and window replacement to meet your requirements in a hassle-free manner.
