subject: Four Important Cs In Diamond - Cut, Color, Clarity & Carat [print this page] Nowadays 4 Cs are very important part of every business. In marketing we heard about 4 cs which give you idea about performance of product & services. Like same in the diamond industry this 4 Cs decided the cost & quality of diamonds. This 4 Cs playing very important role while selling the diamond.
This 4 Cs are as follows:
1)Cut
2)Color
3)Clarity
4)Carat-Weight
1)Cut :- When we talking about cut we are more interested about their proportion and shape. Most diamond are cut round with full 58 facets and a good cut, or make, has more scintillation, more sparkle. When looking at a diamond, if it doesn't catch your eye or if it doesn't flash in the light, it's probably not well cut. Good cutting is what brings fire to the ice.
2)Color:- If you have seen a diamond normally its come in all rainbow color. But the best color for a diamond is no color at all. The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) made the color grading scale for diamonds and its scale from D to Z. Where D denotes that colorless (i.e no color) and Z denotes that light yellow. When the reflection of light passes through the no colorless diamond it passes easily & in the reflection you can see rainbow color.
3)Clarity:- There are five factors determine the clarity of the diamonds i.e. size, number, nature, position & color. The GIA made the clarity grading scale for diamonds. The American Gem Society (AGS) uses the same standards as the GIA however, the AGS uses a numerical system where "0" is the cleanest (GIA "IF") and "10" is the most imperfect (GIA "I3").All diamonds are systematically graded and plotted under 10X magnification. If a trained grader cannot see a clarity characteristic at 10X, it does not affect the clarity grade.
4)Carat-Weight :- Carat is the unit of weight for all gemstones. One carat is subdivided into 100 points. Therefore a diamond measuring 75 points is 3/4 carat in weight, or 0.75ct. There are five carats in a gram. The word "carat" comes from the seed of the carob tree pod which is found in tropical climates. These seeds were used until this century to weigh precious gems. Accordingly, the cost per carat of a larger diamond of the same color, clarity and cut will be higher than a smaller diamond. The price per carat of diamonds rises proportionately with size. Keep in mind that the per carat price gets multiplied by the carat weight. If you have a more weight you will get more money so, many diamond cutters sacrifice brilliance to maximize carat weight and profit. But It is also important to realize that weight does not always equal size or beauty. Poorly cut diamonds intended to maximize size can be dull and lifeless. Some there are experienced cutters also who sacrifice weight and focus on cut to obtain the most beautiful and brilliant Hearts and Arrows diamonds on the market today.
