subject: The Ability of Self-Control Can Be Infected [print this page]

Can you resist the temptation of junk food? Can you control yourself on the table not to "excessive drinking"? If not, take a look, or think of those people who have strong self-control ability. U.S. researchers found that self-control would be "contagion", that's mean a person's self-control would be enhanced by seeing or thinking of a strong self-control men. It took two years for this research and the conclusion is firmed from five tests. In one test, the 36 test subjects were divided into two groups by researchers, so that each one of the group recall a friend with a strong self-control, while the other group would remember a friend with weak self-control . Then all test subjects got grip strength test. The results showed that people who recall a friend with a strong self-control persist longer in the grip strength tests. In another test, 42 test subjects are asked to list the name of their friends who are strong or weak self-control, and then use computer to test the controlled proficiency. At the same time, the name would be showed on the computer screen with 10 second. Test subjects have not read out their names in such a short period of time, but have remembered in the subconscious. It was found that the first screen shows the name of self-control ability of the friend a better performance in the test object, while the screen first showed weak self-control friend's name is the poor performance of the test subject. A person's self-control can affect the strength of other people around them and this influence is huge. The researchers found this conclusion through various tests. Fun Science Site in the United States quoted the words of a psychology professor from the University of Georgia, who is in charge of this study. "If you have strong self-control, you also can help others," she said. Many people would imitate the behavior of people around them, so bad habits such as smoking or drug abuse easily spread through interpersonal networks. However, this study shows that ability of self-control have a "contagious." This means that friends may make you more firmly for their own fitness goal.
