Ear infection is one of the most common reasons for people to visit doctors. It can occur in any individual however children are more vulnerable to this disease. There are different types of this infection that can occur but the most common is called otitis media which is because of the inflammation of the middle ear. Middle ear is located behind the ear drum and otitis media can affect the overall function of the ear and if it is not properly treated it can result in serious health damages.

Symptoms of the ear infection can vary from patients to patients and it also depends upon the overall immune system of the body. In case of children, the ear structures are small and the immune system of their body is weak, which lets the infection occur in the ear.

The most common ear infection symptom is pain in the ear, but in young children with respiratory infections, the only symptoms found are mainly restlessness, insomnia, and crying. It is advised to visit the hospital as soon as any of the symptoms appear.

Treatment through Antibiotics:

Antibiotics are used in severe cases to minimize the intensity of the infection to avoid the potentially serious health hazards. Bad ear infection can lead to permanent damages like complete hearing loss. If the infection goes into the ear canal with the surrounding bone, the hearing ability of the patient might be at risk. Antibiotics kill only the bacteria's however ear infection is in most cases a combination of viral or bacterial infection. To kill the viral infections there has to be some other medications.

Tympanostomy tube or ear tube is another method to treat ear infection. This method is mostly used for chronic infections in which after curing the infection the fluid is present in the ear. A small sized tube is attached with the ear drum to evacuate the fluid in the ear.

Some useful Information about this infection:

Breastfeeding protects its part of otitis media in children. Breast milk increases the child's immune system and resistance to the formation of ear infection. Even if a child is breastfed for only three months, he receives immunity protects against infections even years of age.

Chewing gum also helps in relieving the ear pressure. Gums which have xylitol not only help in relieving ear pressure but they also prevent ear infections.
