A small car is great for a student or a first time driver because they are easy to drive, however it may not be that good for a big family as you would need more space. First off you should decide what you need to use your car for. Then do some research on different models of small cars, medium sized cars and then larger cars.

If you are leaning more towards a small car then look at these advantages and disadvantages of a small car.

Advantages

- Light on fuel. In this current economy and the ever increasing cost of fuel this could be deal breaker.

- Easy to drive. Small cars are easily maneuverability on the road, especially on narrow roads and sharp corners.

- The cost of a small car is often considerably less than a bigger car. So dependent on your budget you may only be able to afford a small car.

- Parking. Small cars are a whole lot easier to park. You can whizz into tight parking spaces much quicker than if you had a bigger car.

- They are very easily available. Due to the popularity of small cars most car manufacturers have a few models of small cars available.

- Overall small cars are practical for everyday driving around.

Disadvantages

- Small cars are often not as safe as bigger cars. Small cars may be manufactured from cheaper material and therefore do not have all of the safety features that can save your life if in an accident. There are good quality small cars available with these added features - but this would add onto the cost of the car.

- There is not a lot of space. If you are extremely tall you may be very uncomfortable in a small car. The back seats often do not have a lot of leg room, if any. The boots are also often quite small which could be a hassle if you need to transport lots of goods.

- They are not as comfortable for long trips. If you are going to be using your car for long road trips, they may not be as comfortable. Firstly the passengers may have to hold their luggage on their lap and secondly the leg room issue mentioned above.

- Not easy to get in and out of. For young and fit people this is not a problem. But if you need to transport elderly people or disabled people it may pose a difficulty getting them in and out of the car.

- Small cars are often not as fast as big cars. If they do go beyond their speed limit you may not be able to control the car.
