pair of words with sentences

Introduction to pair of words with sentences:

Students often confuse and misuse words in pairing with the sentences. This is because the sounds of the words are similar but different in their meaning.

Example:

1. (a) Every taxi has a meter which records the distance traveled and the fare payable.

(b) She purchased a metre of silk for her blouse.

2. (a) Justice was meted out to them.

(b) Can you meet misfortune with a smile?

3. (a) We all wished her a merry Christmas.

(b) John is going to marry again after his wife's death.

4. (a) She buys a litre of milk every day.

(b) Pick up your litter after a picnic.

5. (a) Children played merrily on the lawn.

(b) May I have the loan of your camera?

In the above sentences, we see that the words have a same sound:which are called as "homophones", are often paired wrongly.
