subject: Try To Avoid Getting Bogged Down This Christmas And Speak To A Counsellor. [print this page]

Counselling is something which you should never be ashamed of, Christmas can be a very difficult time of year for some people but by getting the help and talking to someone Christmas can become a little easier.

Christmas can be a very difficult time for people who do not have any family, they will be alone and getting through Christmas day is not always easy. A counsellor will be able to help you put a support system in place, whether thats being able to contact them or being given someone else to contact who has been in the same situation you are in now. Spending Christmas alone may not be a choice and can be a time of year which triggers many unhappy memories and feelings which you can easily get lost in. One thing you should remember is to not be afraid to reach out to someone who can help you, if someone has offered to be there for you then you will not be ruining their Christmas if you need their help. That person will be grateful that you reached out to them when you needed them rather than trying to struggle through on your own.

Life is never easy, no matter how much we wish that it was, hurdles and dilemmas are constantly thrown at us and we have to find a way to deal with them. It is not always easy to know how we should deal them, and sometimes the way we think we should go about tackling them just doesnt work. When you find that you are struggling and are facing something that you cant tackle you should never feel a though it is something which you cant do but instead it is something which you need help with. You may not feel comfortable asking family or friends for help with getting through something but there are professionals such as counsellors who have been trained to help you. You should try not to feel disheartened if the first counsellor you find doesnt work for you there, are many different methods and styles of counselling and so it may take seeing a few different counsellors to find something which works for you. Some counsellors will specialise in person centred counselling while others will specialise in cognitive behavioural therapy, there are many different styles of counselling available. Not all counsellors have enough knowledge of each area to be able to help you, counsellors will have a basic knowledge of the most popular styles but they will then choose to focus on an area or two in depth and these are the areas which they will choose to focus on when trying to help you. Dont feel afraid of telling a counsellor that they way they work isnt helping you, it is something which they have also noticed but it is up to you to make that step, you can ask them to recommend someone who they think has an approach which will help you better.

When you talk to a counsellor you should never feel as though you have to do anything that they say, it is up to you to make changes and implement them in your life. You could take on board the things you talk about with them but implement them into your life when it suits you best and you have made the right steps forward.

Counselling is very personal to you and if you find that you need that help then you should take it, having someone to talk to who is removed from a situation can be a great help, or knowing that you have someone who will listen to you and let you say your piece rather than interrupting you and telling you that you think or feel something different.
