The past year has seen a wide range of new and old jewellery trends creep back into our lives. From gothic chic to statement collars, 2012 was definitely a year to be a fan of all things sparkly. As the year draws to a close we look back at some of the biggest trends, with many of them set to continue through to 2013 it definitely pays to hold on to your current favourite pieces!

Chokers definitely can back with a vengeance this year and fast become one of the must have wardrobe essentials for those looking to update their style. These fantastic necklaces are great for accentuating the neckline and can be worn with almost anything. A statement choker instantly lifts an outfit from drab to fab and many high street stores offer affordable copies of some of the most iconic catwalk pieces.

Gothic style was also very big in 2012 and fashion lovers soon embraced the flattering black and oxblood colour combinations along with the wide range of gothic inspired jewellery. Crosses were one of the biggest trends of the year and were worn as earring, necklaces and bracelets. From dainty, subtle crosses to big, bold designs, there was something for everyone in the world of gothic fashion. Layered looks were especially popular with the fashion elite, with many opting to mix and match their crosses with other gothic designs and beads.

Charm bracelets remained one of the most popular choices for those looking for personalised jewellery and big brands such as Pandora partnered up with celebrities including Girls Aloud to create bespoke ranges. Charm jewellery has proved to be a failsafe gift option for those looking to treat someone special especially as there are now charms to signify all major life milestones. From births to graduations, there is a stunning charm to celebrate the occasion.

Feathers were another big hitter in the jewellery world this year, allowing everyone to unleash their inner boho rock chick. From feather earrings to necklaces and even hair extensions, bright coloured feathers were everywhere in 2012 and they show no signs of slowing down. Celebrities such as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and controversial singer Kesha were the spearheads of this exciting trend, bringing feathers to the masses.

The world of jewellery is one that is always changing and we cannot wait to see just what 2013 will bring. Whether it is studs or sparkles, bead or bouquets, it is time to start planning your New Year wardrobe.
