The Mahindra XUV500 is a luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) from Indian automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra. With production kicking off in 2011, the SUV was available for purchase in select cities in India the following year.

Powering the Mahindra XUV500 is a 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine called the mHawk140, which is named after its amount of horsepower: 140 at 3,750 revolutions per minute (RPM). The engine also produces 243 pound-feet of torque at between 1,600 and 2,800 RPM. The mHawk140 is mated to a six-speed transmission with self-adjusting clutch, which retains pedal effort; and two overdrives for optimizing engine torque and speed. Also included on each SUV is the choice of a Borg Warner-developed all-wheel drive for improved driving control over various road surfaces.

The result of the Mahindra XUV500s powertrain configuration is enhanced fuel economy and acceleration. With an 18-gallon fuel tank, the SUVs fuel efficiency is measured at around 35 miles per gallon. It can go from zero to 60 kilometers (37 miles) per hour (kmph) in 5.4 seconds, zero to 100 mph (0-to-62 mph) in 12.5 seconds and achieve a top speed of 175 kmph (109 mph). Four-wheel disc brakes, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control and sporty suspension only add to the XUV500s braking and handling prowess.

Designed as a four-door vehicle, the Mahindra XUV500 is accentuated with huge stylish alloy wheels for a sporty look; racing-inspired twin exhausts; prominent front grille; roof rails for placing cargo on top of the vehicle; and sharp-styled light-emitting diode (LED) headlights, front fog lights and taillights for superior exterior lighting.

The Mahindra XUV500 is built for the utmost comfort and convenience. With enough interior space to accommodate five people, each SUV is equipped with a 6-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) touch-screen infotainment system, which includes a six-speaker CD/DVD/MP3-compatible unit. Included with the stereo system are a USB port for hooking up an iPod or other USB-compatible devices and Bluetooth hands-free technology for using up to five mobile phones. A fully-loaded GPS navigation system offers turn-by-turn voice directions and access to over 5 million points of interest that include restaurants, ATM machines and gas stations.

Other comfort and convenience features of the Mahindra XUV500 include remote keyless entry, voice command system, tilt and telescopic seating, and leather upholstery that includes 8-way power adjustable seats. Six airbags and a rear parking assist system form part of the SUVs safety and security measures.
