The 2011 race had the distinction of being the second before last race of the season where Lewis Hamilton triumphed in a McLaren Mercedes while the 2012 race title was taken by Kimi Rikknen. However, the lap record of the Yas Marina Circuit is still retained by Sebastian Vettel.
Currently sponsored by Etihad Airways, the Grand Prix is held on Yas Islands' Yas Marina Circuit; the emirate has the right to host this race till 2016.
