Workshop Machinery - Types and Applications of Workshop Machines

The machines used in workshops are often referred by the name workshop machinery. Machine tools are a very important requirement for every workshop. The hard materials like metal and wood are usually worked upon with specific kind of machinery that is designed a bit different from normal cutting or shaping machines used to perform operations on softer materials. This kind of machinery is employed in workshops to enable faster and efficient metal and wood processing applications with lesser production costs required.

Different types of processes are applied on metals and wood in order to give them a specific shape or cast them into required dimensions. All these processes are implemented with the help of various machineries. The three most popular forms of machines employed in most of the workshops include shaping machines, slotting machines and planing machine.

Shaping hard materials like metals or wood is not an easy task. It requires lot of labor and time if needed to be done manually. Therefore this task is performed with the help of shaping machine. A shaping machine ensures accurate shaping of metals or wood in order to produce the desired objects with the required dimensions constantly and repeatedly. In workshops or industries where bulk and efficient processing of wood or metals within short span of time is a requirement, these are the best machines for application. Modern shaping machines are available in various automatic and speed control specifications which make the metal or wood shaping applications at workplaces much more convenient and easier to perform. Equipped with easy to use features these are efficient machineries which can be easily handled even by a novice user for metal and wood shaping applications.

If making slots upon wooden or metal objects is a requirement, slotting machine is an appropriate machine to be used. A slotting machine is a reciprocating type of machine tool which is almost similar to a shaper or planer. The only difference between a shaper machine and slotter is the movement of ram holding the cutting tool. In a shaper ram moves horizontally while in a slotting machine this goes on vertically slotting the required portion from the work piece. A slotting machine is usually classified depending on its cutting speed and ability to perform the depth of cutting. The cutting speed indicates the rate of the process in which the metal is removed in cutting stroke of the machine.

Planing machine is yet another important workshop machine which is used to polish the surfaces of metals or wooden objects. Compared to shaping machine, a planing machine is much larger and productive. It can produce longer, faster and heavy cuts on the metal or wooden work piece and are generally employed for bulk and large jobs where speed in operation is necessary.
