Pune is well connected with Nagpur by air, rail and road. Among the airlines, spiceJet has direct flights from Nagpur to Pune. The distance by air between the two cities is around 661 km. The flight takes a little more than an hour to reach the destination.

There are two daily direct trains from Nagpur to Pune. They are Gondia-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Terminus) Maharashtra Express (No.11040) and Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express (No.12130). Some trains run only on certain days of the week. They include (with the days of operation in brackets) Nagpur-Pune Express No.12136 (Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays), Bilaspur-Pune Express No.12849 (Sundays), Nagpur-Pune Garib Rath Express No.12114 (Tuesdays, Fridays, Sundays), Dhanbad-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Terminus) Deeksha Bhoomi Express No.11046 (Mondays) and Hatia-Pune Express No.22846 (Mondays, Fridays). The distance from Nagpur to Pune by rail is 1002 km. The trains cover this distance in 15 hours to 20 hours.

Travel by road is popular in this route. There are regular bus services by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and private bus operators. The MSRTC plies a Volvo A/c bus service from Nagpur to Pune (and back). The fare for this trip is about Rs.1200. The private bus operators charge a fare of Rs.1.5 to Rs.2.5 per kilometre for the trip. Travel time for the bus journey is about 13 hours.

Taxi cabs are also available in this route. The taxis charge a fare ranging from Rs.10 to Rs.25 per kilometre depending on the type of car the travellers hire. The taxis take less than 13 hours to reach the destination. The road route from Nagpur to Pune passes through Amravati, Akola, Jalna and Aurangabad.
