subject: Soil And Groundwater Assessments Assist In Quantifying Environmental Liabilities [print this page]

Soil and groundwater contamination is typically associated with large industrial facilities, factories, and refineries. While this holds true, contamination can also be present in less industrialized areas resulting from improper chemical handling at dry cleaners, gas stations, and automotive facilities. Contamination found at these facilities requires immediate assessment to determine the lateral and vertical extent of contamination. Once the extent of contamination is determined, the potential impact to human health and the environment is determined and a risk quantification can be developed to determine the full cost of clean up.

ProGEA, Inc. has been performing soil and groundwater assessments for clients all over the world. We have broad knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations in all 50 states and over 30 countries across the world. This enables us to take the results of the assessments and develop an accurate risk quantification that leaves our clients with a good understanding of the financial aspects of their environmental obligations.

The discovery of contamination during soil and groundwater assessments does not necessarily mean that a clean up action is required. ProGEA will analyze the data from the assessment and determine the next appropriate actions which may only involve monitoring for a period of time to ensure the contaminant plume is stable and not expanding. Other times, ProGEA can utilize deed restrictions on the property to limit exposure to existing contaminants and satisfy clean up obligations with minimal out of pocket costs.

In most situations real estate transactions drive the soil and groundwater assessment process. Buyers of commercial real estate want to ensure the property they are buying is clean and uninhibited by environmental clean up obligations. ProGEA understands this and can complete the soil and groundwater assessments in under two weeks in most situations to meet the demanding needs of the commercial real estate transaction process. While other environmental consultants are reluctant to provide risk quantifications, ProGEA personnel have decades of experience on environmental assessments and have seen hundreds of projects go from assessment phase to final case closure. We are confident in providing risk quantification that will be accurate and reliable.
