subject: Solar Water Heaters- An Investment Paid Back For The Long Term [print this page]

. They do were also considering the benefit of renewable and non polluting source of energy as solar power but personally they think they dont require for domestic purpose and overall it was estimated way expensive with the installation part.

Well its not their fault such misconception is prevailing with many of us. Since we dont want to realize that solar power is more of an investment which is going to pay returns for the long term. Secondly, the ignorance on the functioning of the system is another factor that devoid us of solar benefits.

Not to be totally convinced with such thoughts over solar heating systems, I started to take a web search on the topic. To my surprise people are not really unaware of it. Apart from those manufacturers who are sincerely getting the best systems fitted with best quality equipments like solar collectors or solar circulator pumps all ready to install and get you the pleasure of hot water throughout the day, there are also some initiators taking to the DIY projects building their own solar water heater.

1. DIY project was based on drain back system wherein water is taken from below the solar water storage tank through a pump and collector which is then heated by exposure to the sun.

2. The controller monitors the temperature of the collector and when the controller is hotter than the tank it turns on the pump.

3. The pump then drains back the hot water back to the tank. The preheated water then goes to the regular hot water tank.

4. The storage tank here is a non pressurized give lots of volume at low cost and you do not need separate heat exchanger or drain back tank.

5. The collectors here in this system require continuous modifications as per the requirement but replacing it with commercial collectors would save you from the plus and minus of building on your own. The use of commercial collectors in this DIY project also qualifies you for a federal tax credit. The payback period for such system is 3 to 4 years.

Yes the payback period is an extremely important factor here whether you take to commercial or DIY system. This is where installing a solar heater turn into investments.
