subject: My Confidence Has Gone Way Up With Titleist Ap1 712 Irons [print this page]
Titleist irons have always been seen as a badge of excellence. The new Titleist AP1 712 Irons are designed for low handicappers. Titleist has significantly increased the club's moment of inertia (MOI) by re-positioning tungsten weight within the heads. The overall goal was to better apply the different materials used in the design.
I have played several times with my new cheap AP1 712 irons, excellent set of irons with good feel and feedback. They give a great height with the shaft and pick up the ball quick clean. I have also noticed more distance and control of my shots. I love the feel and the very high tragetory of the ball. The ball explodes off the face with high ball speed and a penetrating ball flight. Offset is minimal for a game improvement iron and top line is not too thick.
I am a 11 handicap with a good swing and a high clubhead speed for my skill level. I have felt that its Titleist AP2 712 Irons and AP1 models were quite forgiving enough for my standard of play. I got these with TT DG X100 shafts. They help me keep the ball down with wiser performance. I didnt know if these would have as good of a feel but they are better. The long irons are very easy to hit. A high ball flight for all irons and they are quite long.
Have played Ping G2, discount Mizuno MX 300 Irons, and Ping I15 irons. I think I would feel comfortable playing these clubs with 9-10 USGA HC and with my playing style they probably have a better chance of getting and keeping me there. I like the clubhead, the topline is a bit thick but the sole is perfect size. These have a great solid sound and a good penetrating flight with long irons and a mid high trajectory with the short irons. I am consistently hitting center with these and am hitting good distances with a high draw.
The new design of the Titleist AP1 712 Irons is a big improvement over the 710. It is a multi-material, dual cavity iron that provides modern ball flight and forgiveness with the traditional look, feel, and sound that serious golfers have come to expect from a Titleist iron. These irons are an excellent combination of performance, playability and forgiveness. An ideal choice for the mid to high handicap golfer.
