subject: A Beginner Guide To The Poweriser [print this page]

Powerisers are pretty strange to look at, no doubt about it, but these modified stilts are probably the coolest thing to happen to footwear since someone decided to put wheels on shoes. Powerisers give you the ability to jump six or seven feet in the air, take absolutely enormous strides, and run upwards of 20 miles per hour. These are superhero-worthy feats, and theyre all encompassed in a pair of Powerisers.

That being said, even with all these cool and interesting features going for them, most people still hesitate to give them a shot. Maybe this is because the strapping spring stilts to your legs and running on them doesnt immediately suggest safety, or maybe its just that the whole thing seems too out of the ordinary to be fun.

For those of you still on the fence, here are the basics of how to Powerise.

How do I get up?

The answer to what is probably the most commonly asked question is Easier than you think. Because of the way the Poweriser fits snugly on your foot and is strapped to your knee, it feels just like an extension of your leg. Granted your leg is now a good bit longer, which takes some getting used to, but with a bit of help within the first few minutes most people are able to get up and move around normally.

Will it break?

Short of you beating it with a hammer or accidently running over it with your car, its pretty difficult to break these contraptions. That said, they do take a bit of a beating from physics, so there are a few things you should know about maintaining your Poweriser (including where to get Poweriser spare parts).

You may notice after a year or so of use you cannot jump as high or as far as you used to. Its time to start thinking about a spring replacement for your Poweriser. Spare parts can be acquired through your original place of purchase or online, but double check your model to be sure you get the right ones. A few Poweriser spare parts youd be wise to stock up on: footpads, screws, clips, and bearings.

That said, these are maintenance issues, not problems with the Poweriser actively breaking while youre using them. Youll notice a difference in their power over time, and thatll let you know some replacements might be in order.

Will I break?

Using Poweraisers provides about the same level of danger as other sports like biking or roller blading. Just like with these sports that danger can be minimized by wearing proper safety gear. Helmet, elbow, and knee pads are a must for the new Poweriser user and they are never amiss on the veteran enthusiast, either. Play smart and wear the right gear and youll be just fine out there.

Hopefully this helps allay some of your fears or doubts you might have around using Powerisers. They are really a wicked a fun time and the experience of bounding along on them is simply indescribable. Just maybe have a mate help you up the first time.
