subject: Susanne Zimmer: Abstract Accord At Agora Gallery [print this page] Natural and blithe, Danish-born painter Susanne Zimmer is moved to paint firstly by mood, secondly by an innate urge to exhibit harmony at work in our shared world. Each of Zimmers paintings begins with a color and tone dictated by her present psychical disposition, and meanders poignantly through textures, sumptuous shapes and melodious forms. Always, the artist eschews any preconceptions about a given piece, allowing the paint to express its own poetry upon her canvases. Thus, her works touch on much of the physicality of paint, as well as how community can be built through diversity. My paintings are tribute to life, the dark and the light side, explains Zimmer. I offer the viewer a solution, but the viewer must finish the work by interpretation. In this way the paintings expose and explore the nuances of life, and therefore its many struggles and joys, challenges and encounters.
Born and raised in northern Denmark, Zimmer began to create painting as well as pottery in the 1970s. The tactile physicality of pottery is palpable in her work.
