The hk pistols primarily serve the military market although, they the the closest to what a civilian can get. Most of the HK pistols were part of the US Military Joint Combat Pistol program and the purpose was to have a .45 ACP caliber gun instead of the powerful 9 mm bullet. After the end of the Joint Combat Pistol program, the HK45 was available to the civilians and sold widely in the commercial market. The hk 45 is considered to be an improvement of the HK USP pistol. It is a full-sized model pistol that involved consistent engineering and improved ergonomics. This included an extended slide release system and the interchangeable back straps are designed to fit all hand sizes. There is greater control on the weapon and increased recoil management as well. HKUSP 45 had a 12 round firing capacity while the HK45 fires 10 rounds without reloading. Other modern features of this gun are picatinny rail in front of the trigger guard and polygonal barrel. Its main variant is the HK45 Compact with a 8 round magazine caliber. Both smaller in length and height but otherwise identical in features to the full size version. The standard HK45 Compact is another combat gun in the category. Even this pistol competed in the Joint Combat Pistol series to become a service gun.

The P30 semi automatic series is a double caliber gun. It fires the 9mm and .40 S&W. The larger version of P30 has a longer barrel length and is slightly more heavier. The P30 is a modern police pistol and combines the function of increased safety. Its most intriguing feature is the grip frame, optimal accuracy and shooter control. The innovative trigger operation reduces every chance of unintended firing. The Law Enforcement Modification trigger system combines high reliability quotient with speedy action. The larger variant of P30, the P30L is around half an inch longer and otherwise identical to P30.

The P2000 is another revolutionary semi-automatic model with three caliber configurations - .357 SIG, .40 S&W and 9 mm. Its another variant is the P2000SK. The P2000 model has a longer barrel length and is ideal for combat situation. Key features of P2000 are double action/single action trigger mode, refinement of design and cocked striker component.

HK USP is still much a talked about combat guns. It comes with three other variants, the USP Compact, USP Tactical and USP Compact Tactical. The USP Compact Tactical fires only .45 ACP while the two others, Compact and Tactical version of HK USP fires the 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 AUTO.
