subject: Success Will Come More Quickly If You Play To Your Strengths [print this page]

Several years ago, I studied voice from one of the best vocal instructors and musicians out there!

Im totally serious.

She always said...I can teach a frog to sing.

And she could.

And if I had just listened to her, I might have had a successful singing career.

But I didnt.

Thats ok, though, because I learned something very important.

I learned why you need to play to your strengths.

One of the things I struggled with in my vocal career was song selection.

If youve ever watched any of those voice competition shows like American Idol...youll know what I mean when I say play to your strengths.

A performer could have a great voice and then one week sing something that is totally wrong for them and get voted off.

Another thing, Ive seen contestants do well on the show and build a following by singing a certain style of song and then when they put out their album, it doesn't sound like them at all.

They totally changed the style of song that brought them success.

If youve had success singing ballads...dont come out with a rap album.

That's just crazy!

Just play to your strengths.

And that is where I got into trouble. I loved to sing all these songs that just didnt suit my voice.

And week after week Id come to class and get that look that says I dont think so.

But when I picked the right song...it was a happy experience!

My point is, that sometimes in life we just get in our own way.

In Internet marketing there are so many options out there in terms of companies and marketing strategies.

Too many in fact. Its like picking a song...too many options.

So its easy to want to pursue every one that crosses your path...or one that you like.

But just because you like something, doesnt mean that its right for you.

My point is, its really important to play to your strengths.

Know what you do well and stick to it.

We all have our talents and things that come naturally for us.

But for some reason, we think the grass is greener someplace else and start looking at someone elses gifts and talents as having more value than ours.

That is not true.

When we can accept and embrace our own uniqueness, the sooner we will start to experience success.

Play to your strengths and tap into your unique power.

Because the quickest way to success is to play to your strengths.
