subject: Are You Carrying A Flashlight And Pocket Knife With You At All Times? [print this page]

Here are two products that you should always carry around as a concealed firearm owner. First Ill say that you should carry around a reliable flashlight. The flashlight needs to be at minimum one hundred fifty lumens and have a battery lifespan of at minimum four hours at maximum power. I picked up a couple at Home Depot ($7.99 for set of 2 including six AAA batteries). The models I bought are good for seven hours at 200 lumens. They are made with a crowned edge regularly called a strike bezel, which allows it to double as an in close weapon if required. I acquired one to wear on my person, one for the vehicle, one for the closet to always maintain next to my Glock 19, one for the girlfriends go bag, and one to always maintain in the situation one of the others fails. At $7.99 for 2 plus batterieswhy not?

If you are one of those gadget freaks you can purchase the $155 500 Lumen Fury from a vendor called Surefire.

Why do you need a flashlight on your person? Along with from the obvious benefits it can be a definite life saver. A colleague of mine got stuck in an underground retail compound during a power outage. It was completely dark and no emergency lights. He brought out his trusty $8 flashlight and led himself and more or less 15 other people to safety. Once they got to daylight all of his followers were shocked to discover that he wasnt a police officer. Just using a flashlight in a dark circumstance could communicate to a potential assailant that you are not a weakling and it would be more appropriate to find an easy victim. I imagine being able to flash my light on some man in two hundred focused lumens and say, Stop. Show me your hands. Dont come any closer. It sounds ridiculous, but if it preserves me from having to deploy my primary, Im all about it. I dont always carry my primary, but any time I leave the house at night, Im carrying a flashlight.

As soon as I started hanging out in these communities, I learned that all of these concealed carry sportsmen and women are also pocket knife owners. I started clipping one within my trousers pocket and boy does this thing come in handy. When I was twenty-three a best friend of mine gave me a special edition Smith & Wesson pocket knife with my name laser engraved on it. The blade is just about 3 inches and it is scarcely recognizable when I have it clipped between my pocket. The other night out I was at Wal-Mart and noticed a pocket knife made by Winchester that was only $5yes five dollars. It had a serrated edge so I purchased it. My Smith & Wesson is lighter and doesnt come with a serrated edge so I alternate between carrying them.

They are always very helpful. Cutting open bags, cutting cordage, cutting zip ties, and the checklist goes on. My fiancee thinks Im crazy (who isnt) because Im always thinking up situations wherein my flashlight or pocket knife will be essential. Do most of these circumstances ever take place? No. But Im well prepared if they do.
