There are 120 people traveling in Train A. Another 105 people are on the train B. How many people are there in all?

Solution:

Number of people in Train A= 120

Number of people in Train B= 105

Total number people = 120+105

= 225

Example 2:

Mrs. Mike bought 2.5kg of fish, 1.5 kg of mutton and .5 kg of ginger. How much kilograms did she buy in all?

Solution:

Fish = 2.5kg

Mutton = 1.5kg

Ginger= 0.5kg

Total = 2.5+1.5+0.5

= 4.5 kg

Solve basic arithmetic word problems on subtraction:

Example 1:

There are 32 paperclips in a desk with two drawers. One drawer has 14 paperclips in it. How many paperclips are in the other drawer?

Solution:

Total number of paper clips in a desk = 32

Number of clips in first drawer = 14

Number of clips in second drawer = 32-14

=18

Example 2:

Amy Invites 250 relatives for his marriage. Only 160 relatives came. How many relatives did not come?

Solution:

Total Number of relatives invited = 250

Number of relatives came= 160

Number of relatives did not came= 250-160

=90

Example 1:

Neetas Mom had given her '$' 5 last week. She gives her 3 times more travel money this week. How many dollars did Mom give to Neeta this week?

Solution:

Money given for last week = '$' 5

Money given in this week= 3 x5

= '$' 15

Example 2:

There are 2 cakes. Each cake is cut into 8 parts. Each part is further cut into 3 pieces. How many cake pieces are there in all?

Solution:

Total number of cake pieces = 2 x 8 x3

=48

Solution:

Total estimated cost = '$' 144

Total number of students = 12
